Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response:  Last thanksgiving my family prepared the best meal for me. It was so good, all of it was so delicious and had me wanting more. Thankfully as it was thanksgiving there was a large amount of food to go around so I got my fix. Summary: We did a quiz on the story Reflection:  The quiz was really easy but made me think more about the story.

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

Prompt Response:  Last night I thankfully remembered I had this physics homework that was going to take forever that I forgot to do. It is very good that I remembered as it would've greatly brought my grade down and caused a lot of distress. Summary: We finished the story Reflection:  The story's ending was very interesting and the characters were very unique.

Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

Prompt Response:  Very recently I had an encounter with this homeless guy at goodwill and I bought him some clothes. Seeing homeless people is something that is greatly upsetting to me because it makes me so upset seeing people in that condition and situation and I just hope for them to end up doing better at some point. Summary:  Started this story and the writeable Reflection:  The story was very interesting at that point.

Write about what you are thankful for.

Prompt Response:  I am thankful for my buds and my family and the condition I am in. In the relative sense of the whole world I am in many ways blessed to be where I am and who I am with. I am able to live a thoroughly enjoyable life. Summary: We worked on vocab Reflection:  The new vocab was very interesting

Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:   I think that the most shocking news story I have ever heard was back in 2017 when there was that shooting in Las Vegas where 60 something people died and a ton more were injured. Of course shootings aren't that unique unfortunately but the size and scale of this one and one guy being behind it all. It is something that really shakes you to your core and caused a pretty big upset for people. Summary: We took a quiz on the story Reflection:  The quiz was pretty difficult and I had to go over it a few times to get it right.

Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

Prompt Response:  My first house that I lived in when I was a baby holds deep memories for me. I don't remember it all too well but it reflects of a time past and I can still visualize it well when thinking of a different time. Summary: We went over the start of a short story and answered some questions about it  Reflection:  The story gave an interesting look into an era and place in history and the people in it.

Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

Prompt Response:  I have seen contemptuous used before in different things. It is used often to describe someone that quietly holds scorn or dislike towards someone and you can often seen in their actions. I see it used when someone might dislike someone that is on the same group as them, so it is not outwardly hateful but there is a clear dislike. Summary: We worked on a new vocab lesson Reflection:  The new words that we learnt in the vocab lesson were very useful and I expect to use them.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

Prompt Response:  When I was growing up I was unable to pass a certain point in my neighborhood. This was not only to prevent me from getting lost but also just to keep me safe generally and within people's sights. It was important to keep me around and set boundaries for my free time. Summary: We worked on the short story "The Rockpile" Reflection:   The story was quite interesting and was very complex.

Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Prompt Response:  For me, one very useful thing in regards to learning new words and terms is that it allows me to better describe and understand my thoughts on something. Having more ways to describe things more specifically is very helpful in order to understand what something is attempting to achieve. Summary: Went over vocab Reflection:  The new vocab we used will be very useful

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Prompt Response:  In my life both of my parents are pretty lenient on punishment and being strict. It hasn't really been a factor to me as I don't really ever get in trouble and I don't have to face discipline very much. I think that maybe if I were a more troublesome kid then it would have more repercussions on how I feel about things. The lack of punishment may give me free reign to do a lot of things that I wouldn't do otherwise Summary: We went over the story and went over our connections Reflection:  Working on the story made me think more about the complexities of discipline.
