Today I recited the poem: Fragmentary Blue by Robert Frost

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response:  This was one of my favorite classes throughout this semester. I really enjoyed many of the poems and vocab lessons we did and I feel much of my vocabulary and comprehension got better. I especially enjoyed the assignment where we created a poem. It was a climax of a lot of skills we had learnt up to that point and it was fun seeing my classmates present their work in their styles. Summary: Did the blog post  Reflection:  The blog post made me think about the semester again in the positive way.

Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response:  While this isn't the most unique tradition, for holidays and special events we always meet with our grandparents or cousins. I know alot of people stay home for Christmas but I have not done that in a very long time I am almost always at a family member's house. I think it is a good thing as it is important to bond with all of your family and it creates memories and fun times. I wouldn't want it any other way. Summary: We did our blog post in class. Reflection:  Thinking about traditions made me reminisce on memories with family.

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older?

Prompt Response:   For my experience, my holidays have remained fairly consistent throughout the years. It is something that I am still quite excited for most the time and while maybe I am not as excited as I used to be, I still retain much of it. My family still visits our extended family during it as we always have and it is usually the same people. I will say that for me holidays have changed a bit due to being more unsure of what I want in regards to gifts from family, but that is a pretty small change. Summary: We went over lesson six of vocab Reflection:  This lesson was one where I really didn't know most words in it, which is special since I usually recognize a good amount of words in each the lessons we do. But the new words are useful and I will retain them for future application.

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response:  There is a lot of music that I have outgrown and while most of it I still quite like I certainly have other things that I like a lot more and would rather listen to. But thinking of the times when that music was my favorite thing does take me back and make me reminisce to those times.  Summary: We did a vocab test Reflection:  I did good on it, I need to learn all of the words completely though.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response:  Something that I can't stop thinking about as of late is basketball. I have always mildly enjoyed the sport and things about it but these past couple weeks it is something that I have been extremely interested in and invested in regarding the players and history and stats. It is something that I think about a lot and want to learn more about constantly and be engaged with the games going on. Summary: We went to the library to select classes Reflection:  I am very excited for next school year and the classes I will take.

Post the picture of your cultural identity mask onto your blog. Write a reflection about the creation process of the mask or presenting it to the class.

Prompt Response:  Creating my mask was pretty difficult for me. It was hard to think of things that I enjoy or represent me and that I want to share. Now after seeing other people's masks I realized that there were a lot more things I could've done than what I did. If I were to do this project again I think I would have a much easier time and be able to make it more interesting Summary: We presented our masks. Reflection:

Write about the best gift you have received

Prompt Response:  I think the best gift I have ever received is probably my PC. It is something that I wanted for a very long time but alluded me and getting it as a surprise was very exciting for me and it is something I certainly have gotten the worth out of. It continues to not only be fun but very useful and I think I would struggle with a lot of things without it. Summary: We did a vocab lesson Reflection:  The new vocab words are really useful

What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response:  I am most proud of my family achievements and aspirations. Having family that generally are all very academic and educated it gives me pride and something to strive for. I am glad to have this background as it is something that built me to be how I am in many ways and what I want. Summary: We worked on our mask project Reflection:  The mask project is difficult as it is hard for me to visualize myself in that way

Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response:  One time with my buds I skipped school and I ended up really regretting it as I missed a ton of stuff that was a pain to make up. I mad ethe original decision simply because I wanted to do something with my friends and have fun, but the consequences did ultimately show me the other perspective that made me want to undo it. Summary: We read a poem and did some work relating to it Reflection:  I really liked the poem I thought it was really good.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response:  The thing I was the most thankful for was my circumstances and everything within it. Being born where I was born, living where I live, and knowing who I know are all things of incredible luck and I am forever thankful for these things. I think it is really important to be humble/thankful for the things we have and the gifts we receive Summary:  Did vocab work Reflection: The vocab we went over was very interesting.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response:  The masks represent how people change in order to fit in with others or depending on who they're with. The moment that really stuck with me was the ending where she takes off the mask and everyone is in awe, maybe even envious. It relates to the poem "I, Too" as the poem reflects themes of being left alone due to something and wanting to be free from these prejudices. Summary: Worked on the mask and watched the short Reflection:  The short was very interesting and had a good message.
